About The Artist : In the times of digital textile printing, have you ever wondered whether the ancient era of block prints still hold any relevance, which it deserves?
Amongst the very few who are taking the art forward, here’s this one Startup inspired by real artisans, “FarQbySurbhi”.
The founder, Ms. Surbhi Jain is a budding entrepreneur from Jaipur, Rajasthan, pursuing her post graduation and dreams to earn a doctorate.
Surbhi curiates art through kalamkaari, tie&dye and block prints , teaming up with rural artisans in villages who have sustained the craft for centuries.
Travelled different parts of India with a vision to get hands on real life state crafts. She truly believes in graining experiences without compromising with leanings. After all, there’s no better way to learn a craft than by getting one’s hand dirty.
During the pandemic, she collaborated with some chhipas in order to lead appreciation of the effort that goes into the making of hand-printed fabrics, increasing awareness of Indian hand-looms and encourage people to buy & promote local.
In her words,” We should consider the challenges of our artisan communities and a need to treat them sensitively so that they don’t become a victim of this era “.
